Q.
Give us a snapshot of your career to date and an overview of your current role?
After working in PR for two years , I moved to Bauer Media as the editor of BEAUTYDIRECTORY and beauty editor for Good Health NZ/Australia. I took up my current role as editor of beautyheaven (which launched last month) and BEAUTYDIRECTORY in July.
Q.
What are you looking for from PRs – and what kind of pitch would get an immediate response?
The latest beauty releases, trend forecasts, news and interview opportunities across makeup, skin, hair, body and health.
Q.
Do you prefer email or phone pitches, and what is the best time of day/day of the week to catch you?
Definitely email – any time.
Q.
During your career, what has your experience been like working with PRs?
Coming from PR, I have a huge amount of respect for how hard PRs work for the brands they represent and understand the pressures they’re under. For the most part, my experience has all been pretty positive! The less personal/mass pitches and press releases (especially those with no product to sample) can grind my gears a little! I don’t like to recommend products that I’ve never had the opportunity to try, more so now I am working on beautyheaven where there’s a really active community who trust your recommendations and opinions.
Q.
Do you attend many media events and if so, what kind?
Yes when workload permits. I try to attend as many events as possible across beautyheaven’s categories.
Q.
What do you love about your job?
That is doesn’t feel like a job! I genuinely love coming to work each day, the beauty/digital team at Bauer are amazing and love that no day is the same.
Q.
What's the downside?
Not really a downside as such but juggling so many different tasks at once can be challenging – I’ve mastered the art of prioritisation that’s for sure! Of course, navigating the backend of a new website has been a learning curve too.
Q.
Describe a typical day:
There are no typical days! Truly, every day is different. A mixed bag of meetings, writing, managing the content schedule, social media, creating EDMs and working closely with clients on custom content.
Q.
If you weren't doing what you do now… what would you be doing?
I’m a bit of a foodie so I’d probably stick to writing but in a food capacity. I also LOVE animals, particularly dogs, so potentially something with them!
